Texans Set To Hire Ray Rhodes
Submitted by Rod McMahan on Sat, 2008-01-26 10:47. Houston Texans Coach and Front Office NewsThe Houston Texans are about to add another veteran coach to the roster by hiring Ray Rhodes an a assistant defensive coach
Ray has 27 years of coaching experience, including head jobs with The Eagles and Packers. With the Texans he will assist defensive coordinator Richard Smith and defensive backs coach Jon Hoke.
The Texans have the coaches. They have some pretty damn good talent. Now if they can just make a few smarts moves on draft day and hope for some health in 08 they could make a run at the playoffs.
Texans Go Old and Young With Hires
Submitted by Rod McMahan on Wed, 2008-01-09 14:49. Houston Texans NewsThe Houston Texans have brought out of retirement Alex Gibbs to serve as assistant head coach. He will replace Sherman less the offensive coordinator duties (more on that in a second). I've heard of Gibbs before but not too much. Word is he is some type of offensive mastermind and the greatest o-line coach ever. Kubiak is excited and if Kubiak is excited I'm excited.
As for offensive coordinator the young Kyle Shanahan has been promoted to the position. He is like the George W. Bush of coaching. Let's just hope he has better at his job than old W.
The Texans First Round Pick Should Be Used On What Position?
Submitted by Rod McMahan on Fri, 2008-01-04 08:18. Houston Texans OpinionsEven Stevens: Texans Finish Year 8-8
Submitted by Rod McMahan on Fri, 2008-01-04 08:04. Houston Texans Gameday ThoughtsSure the Jags were resting many of their starters, but screw it. Half the Texans starters were hurt so in my opinion that made the game even. 8 wins. A franchise record.
While the Texans were as consistent as my posting in 2007 the bottom line is there was progress, enough progress that many people are going to be thinking playoffs in 2008.
For 2007 really the three biggest problems were injuries, turnovers and the AFC South.
The injuries were just bad luck. 07 was by far the worst season ever for a Texans team in terms of injuries, Robinson, McKinney, Andre Johnson, Ahman Green, a bunch of defensive backs, Matt Schaub, Ron Dayne at times, Chester, Jacoby Jones, Mathis, and so on, and so on.
The turnovers are fixable. No excuse there. If Kubiak wants to stay a head coach in this city for long he needs to get his guys to hold on to the ball.
As for the division well nothing you can do about that but find ways to beat the Colts, Titans and Jags. That is six games right there and going 1-5 against your division isn't going to get any team to the post season.
Up and Down Texans Up Again
Submitted by Rod McMahan on Mon, 2007-12-17 23:04. Houston Texans NewsJust when I thought the Texans would win only 6 game this season they spite me by winning two in a row. I'm telling you this is a different team at home.
Right now the Texans are on a winning streak high AND Mario Williams is playing like he deserved the number one pick. Certainly playing better than those other two guys who we've been beat over the head with.
Houston is 5-2 with Andre. 2-5 Without. That makes me sick. What might have been.
Also from the glass half empty section the damn turnovers. If instead of being the worst in all of football at turning the ball over what would their record be if they were in the middle. That has to be worth at least one if not two more wins.
Oh well. Two VERY difficult games left against the Colts and the Jags. Should be fun. If they split the Texans will have their first non-losing season. Baby steps.
Turnovers and Injuries: Your 2007 Houston Texans
Submitted by Rod McMahan on Sun, 2007-12-02 17:06. Houston Texans Gameday ThoughtsIf they put together a DVD on the 2007 Houston Texans on the cover should be a picture of a Texan player fumbling the ball. The Texans added two more turnovers today to bring their league leading total to 31. And again the turnovers resulted in points for the other team. They say turnovers are a reflection of coaching if that is the case then the Texan coaching staff must be the worst in the league.
Houston had a chance in this game. They scored a TD to bring them within one score. The defense forced a punt but someone must have reminded Jones the Texans hadn't turned the ball over yet on the day because he muffed the punt. Turnover which set up an easy TD for the Titans, so easy Vince, Uncle Rico, Young didn't even have to put the ball in the air.
Adding insult to injury Matt Schaub had to leave the game early with an injured left shoulder. The Titans once again executed their game plan of hurt the starting QB for the second time this season versus Houston.
Texans Suck Once Again: I'm Done
Submitted by Rod McMahan on Sun, 2007-11-25 14:31. Houston Texans Gameday ThoughtsProps to the defense who played their ass off against a great offensive team. Owen Daniels STOP fumbling the ball. Andre Johnson, where are you?
Chew on this. Teams have scored over 100 points off of Texans turnovers this season. The Texans have scored about 40 on turnovers they forced. It is AMAZING they have won as many games as they have with such a piss poor ratio.
From now on it is fantasy football and other forms of gambling that keep me interested in the NFL. My son will thank me many years from now.
Oh and Gus Johnson is annoying as hell when he is going against your team. And Jamal Lewis is running like he never went to prison.
Texans Climb To .500 With Win Over Saints
Submitted by Rod McMahan on Sun, 2007-11-18 15:21. Houston Texans Gameday Thoughts
Let me say this first. Mario Williams had a great game. Reggie Bush did not. If the performances were reversed there would be 100 articles written about the stupid Texans by now. What is sad is no one will talk about how great Mario was because it is easier for the hacks to bitch while pointing you stupid, me smart. Plus non of them actually watched the game and not everything Mario did will be in the box score.
As for the game it was a terrific win. The defense played great and if the offensive would stop turning the ball over they may start blowing people out. What about Andre Johnson? In the 3 games he has played in he has gone over 100 yards with a TD in each. It hurts to think what might have been had he stayed healthy.
Ahman Green Out For Game Against Saints
Submitted by Rod McMahan on Sat, 2007-11-17 08:02. Houston Texans Injury NewsAnd here I was hoping to get a quarter or two out of Ahman Green.
At practice yesterday Kubiak informed the world Ahman Green will not be active for the game Sunday against the Saints. And not only will he not be playing Sunday but if you read between the lines the odds of him playing at all again this year are not good. I mean if he can't get healthy after the bye week when is he going to get healthy.
Ron Dayne will be your starter Sunday.
Obviously the Ahman Green experiment didn't work. Let's hope the Texans look for a solid RB in the draft. I don't know about you but between Domanick Davis and Green I'm sick of running back injuries. So much for that $6.5 million guaranteed.
Early Look At Texans vs. Saints
Submitted by Rod McMahan on Fri, 2007-11-16 12:23. Houston Texans Gameday ThoughtsIt took a long time but Reggie Bush is finally going to play a game in Reliant Stadium, too bad we won't be in a Texans uniform.
I don't know about you but I'm done defending Mario Williams. I tried to talk myself into the pick. I tried to rationalize a defensive end was more important than a running back. I tried and I tried but I just can't do it any more. The bottom line is the pick was a huge mistake. Mario is a good player and probably will be for a number of years, but he isn't what we all hoped he would be and he certainly isn't good enough to justify passing up on Reggie Bush.
As for the up coming game for the first time since week 2 the Texans will be run out all top skill position players. Andre is back. Schaub is back. Even Ahman Green will be back for probably a quarter or two until he hurts his knee again.
The worst thing that happened to the Texans is the Saints lost last week to the Rams. I got a bad feeling Brees and Company are going to run up the score. With no Duanta the Saints may pass for 5 TDs. I'm thinking take the over.
